Sony clarifies the PS5 backwards compatibility
Earlier this week, Mark Cerny from Sony, introduced the Playstation 5 technical specifications, and then spoke briefly about backwards compatibility with Playstation 4 games. He said, among other things, that the PS5's boosted clock frequencies will cause problems for the code in some PS4 games and that they have recently viewed around 100 of the most popular games, of which "almost all" will be playable when the Playstation 5 is launched.
This was interpreted by many as only a small selection of Playstation 4 games will be compatible with the new hardware, but Sony has now made a statement through its blog, stating that this is not the case. They believe that the overwhelming majority of all 4000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5 and that the boosted clock frequencies will likely lead to more stable image updates or potentially higher resolutions.
