Toshiba has now officially decided to stop manufacturing laptops. It is officially the end of a long era. Toshiba has been manufacturing laptops since 1985 and was among the first manufacturers to create computers with clamshell form factor.

With the Satellite and Portégé ranges, Toshiba established a strong grip on the market and was long considered one of the best PC suppliers. But recently, competition from other manufacturers has become stronger and lack of imagination caused them to fall in the shadows.

In 2018, Toshiba sold its PC business unit to Sharp, but they retained almost 20 percent of the business. These remaining percentages were sold to Sharp a few months ago and the last shares were transferred on Thursday 6th of August 2020.

This means that Toshiba has now completely ended its time as a PC provider.
